The myth of 500
One new year's resolution that should be considered by the Washington wine industry is to stop saying it has 500 wineries until it actually does. Back in April, Robin Pollard, the Washington Wine Commission's executive director, announced that the state Liquor Control Board had issued its 500th winery license. This was, in fact, true. And since then, the 500 wineries moniker has been repeated ad nauseum by the industry and press.My apologies to Sweet Valley Winery in Walla Walla - the 500th winery - but Washington still is 19 short of that....
