Two Pieces of Good News for Township Taxpayers

Yesterday's Vancouver Sun had not one, but two, pieces of good news for local taxpayers. First, Premier Gordon Campbell announced that municipalities who sign on to the Climate Action Charter will be refunded their carbon tax every year. The Township signed on earlier this year. This is excellent news, as municipalities like ours buy a lot of fuel and heat quite a few buildings. We were expecting to pay around $50,000 in carbon tax the first year--with that escalating to over $141,000 in 2012 as the rate crept up.In other good news, the BC Supreme Court has upheld the region's right to demand...
