File under 'I' for Irony: Conservative Toronto MP Dan McTeague jumps into bed with the sleaziest of consumer-hating copyright mobsters... three years after publicly proclaiming that US rapper '50 Cent' should be barred from entering Canada due to his (carefully stage-managed) violent gangster persona.
Copyfighter Michael Geist has got McTeague's number: 'I don't think that any MP, much less one focused on consumer affairs, should be so completely dismissive of consumer concerns. Yet that was precisely what McTeague did, as his parting shot on the panel was to emphasize the need to restore Canada's international reputation and not be derailed by a "handful of individuals lobbying grenades into the policy process." With all due respect, the tens of thousands of Canadians who have spoken out on the need for fair copyright are not a handful of people.'
So what's a free-thinking, music-downloading Canadian to do? Well, you could always lob another metaphorical grenade Mcteague's way. His email address is: dan@mcteague.ca.
