Is Sucking Carbon Underground Really the Way to Go?

The B.C. government is contributing nearly three-and-a-half million dollars to a feasibility project to store carbon dioxide underground.
The greenhouse gases will be pulled from the Spectra Energy natural gas plant in Fort Nelson and pumped two kilometres below the Earth's surface to a natural geological reservoir for permanent storage.
Energy Minister Richard Neufeld calls it one of the largest carbon capture projects in the world, while a Spectra Energy official says it the amount of air pollution that could be stored in a year is equivalent to that produced by 250-thousand automobiles.
But NDP critic Shane Simpson says the government's contribution to the $12 million study seems rather "slim" given the record revenues the province is getting from oil and gas leases.
