This fall, many of our roads will be getting back to normal as Canada Line construction is finishing up ahead of schedule. But, we're over a year away from actually traveling the line.
According to Steve Crombie with InTransit BC, the company building the Canada Line, everything has to be up and running by November 30th, 2009, but they expect ridership to begin sooner. Crombie says people will see continue to see road work in areas where the line is already completed because the city is doing additional streetscape.
He adds that in the upcoming months, those giant holes cut into downtown, will disappear, "Around September for Vancouver City Centre, around November for Yaletown and around February for Waterfront."
Crombie says that the new Waterfront station will take longer because they have to do underground work connecting it to the existing one.
In addition to much of the construction finishing up, Crombie explains that people will actually see the trains, "So far we've been running trains on the guideway from our operations and maintenance centre in Bridgeport over to the airport. Starting in September, we'll start running trains along the elevated guideway down no.3 road, so that'll be the next significant sight for people to see. "
