From CBC.ca --
An RCMP officer in central B.C. has been convicted of assault with a stun gun stemming from an incident in 2006 where police were called to a pub in 100 Mile House.
Const. Dan Cameron and two other officers were called to the pub on Highway 97, where they arrested a man and zapped him with a Taser.
A provincial court judge ruled on Monday that Cameron's use of the Taser — which is designed to incapacitate someone by delivering a 10,000-volt electric shock — was not excessive. But the judge also ruled police did not have grounds to arrest the man in the first place, so Cameron's firing of the stun gun was not warranted.
Cameron's sentencing hearing is scheduled for later this month.
An RCMP spokesperson said Cameron will remain on active duty at the 100 Mile House detachment until after sentencing and the outcome of a formal internal disciplinary hearing.
