In the wake of Saturday night's closure of the beach at English Bay, the West End Residents Association says the last thing it wants is for the neighbourhood's backyards to become heavily policed.
The Association's Aaron Jasper says a passive police presence, such as walking and biking patrols along pathways, is welcomed.
But he fears a heavy-handed approach by the Park Board and the police.
He considers the incident at English Bay this past weekend, which saw about 100 youths getting rowdy, and a helicopter dispatched to disperse a crowd of about 2,000, a one-off incident
He believes the area isn't in need of extra permanent policing.
Constable Tim Fanning with the VPD, meanwhile, says they're looking at a number of ways to keep an eye on potential rowdies, including having officers patrol on foot, on bicycles, on horseback, and on ATVs.
