From 24 Hours --
While the inside of a Canadian pavilion in Beijing might not be drawing much tourist interest, the outside will be a legacy for years to come.
The British Columbia government has given the city the 13 red cedar arches gracing the multi-million dollar centre just off iconic Tiananmen Square.
B.C. Canada Pavilion was conceived as a business and tourism showpiece for the province but tourist visits have been sluggish in part because the Chinese government insisted an entry fee be charged.
Business has gone well, with dozens of agreements signed between Canadian and Chinese companies.
In giving the gift of the arches, which cost almost three million dollars, B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell said the province wanted to say thank you for all the opportunities they've had in Beijing.
