The Vancouver Canucks announced on Tuesday that they will honour late defenceman Luc Bourdon before their home opener on Oct. 9.
Bourdon, 21, was killed on May 29 when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a transport truck on a road in New Brunswick between Lameque and Shippagan, his hometown.
Bourdon was selected 10th overall by Vancouver in the 2005 NHL entry draft and played 36 games with the Canucks over the past two seasons.
"Luc was an important part of our Canucks family. We want to make sure that everyone who Luc touched has the opportunity to celebrate his life and memory,” said Chris Zimmerman, Canucks sports and entertainment president.
The home opener against the Calgary Flames will be televised by Hockey Night in Canada and streamed online at CBCSports.ca.
It is the second game of an HNIC doubleheader, with the Detroit Red Wings raising the Stanley Cup banner at Joe Louis Arena before playing the Toronto Maple Leafs.
