Tambellini leaves Canucks to become Oilers GM

Steve Tambellini has left the Vancouver Canucks to accept a position as the new general manager of the Edmonton Oilers.

Tambellini, a 17-year member of the Canucks organization, most recently vice-president and assistant GM the last three seasons, will replace Kevin Lowe, who has been promoted to president of hockey operations.

The Canucks will miss Tambellini's knowledge of their organization.

When new Canucks GM Mike Gillis was hired in April he said his first priority was to keep Tambellini in the organization.

Tambellini, 50, oversaw all aspects of the club's operations, from contract negotiations to scouting and minor-league affiliates.
