From CBC: A Vancouver police officer — who used his baton on an off-duty firefighter brawling with police — testified Friday that on-duty firefighters blocked him as he tried to reach the fight.
"McConnell, who is six feet five inches and 317 pounds, said he felt obstructed by two on-duty firefighters who were watching the brawl. He said he eventually pushed through and struck Curtis Mason several times with his baton to convince him to stop fighting.
McConnell told the court that, after he struck Mason several times with the baton, he was concerned other firefighters might intervene and said that's why he can be seen on the video shouting and waving his baton at what he called his "brother officers in public safety."
Officially, the Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver Fire Department say there is nothing but respect between the two organizations."
