Canada's food watchdog is recalling cilantro grown in California because it may be tainted with salmonella.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Wednesday Salinas-based NewStar Fresh Foods is recalling fresh cilantro sold in the U.S. and British Columbia, Manitoba, and Alberta.
The salmonella identified is not a match for the Saintpaul strain that sickened more than 1,300 people, including four Canadians.
The recall affects cilantro sold under the brand names NewStar, Ready Set Serve and Cross Valley Farms with the Lot ID 11B056404 and an expiry date of July 26 and July 27 and a Julian code of 192 or 193.
No associated illnesses have been reported.
Consumers should return the cilantro to the retailer.
