US Elections Overshadow October 14th

As everyone is well aware, the US election goes down in t-minus 2 months…approximately. Good luck to our neighbors to the south…it's about to get interesting. Yet, how many people are actually aware that we are on the heels of a Canadian election, slated for October 14th?
Having just had lunch with some close friends of mine, I was shocked to discover one of my counterparts was unaware of our impending vote. Huh? My otherwise intelligent friend had simply lost interest given we as Canadians are bombarded with everything surrounding the American election. Because, our economy depends on it, you know. Rubbish.
The 40th Canadian General election is upon us and what is everyone doing? We're glued to our sets watching CNN, soaking in all the gossip around Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin's pregnant teenage daughter. Or, how about Barrack Obama's ‘pig and lipstick' snafu? We just can't help ourselves.
Has Canadian politics really become that predictable, and perhaps boring? I have to admit, I haven't been exactly riveted by what Stephane Dion or Stephen Harper have to say. Dion comes across as an angry intellectual with little punch when it comes to delivering a speech. And Harper, as always, comes across boring, unthreatening and a tad simple. I have a feeling we're looking at another minority Conservative government, but I digress. The only thing that has caught my attention as it pertains to the Canadian election is the fact that the networks are actually including the Green Party to take place in all three of the electoral debates.
I'm not a supporter of the Greenies by any means, but hey – good on ya' for getting your voice heard and stirring up the old boys in Ottawa. ‘Bout time.
