I recently popped into one of my favorite local wine shops, Firefly Fine Wines, to find some valuable vintages. Much to my delight, Firefly is carrying a variety of Farmstead Wines, a company that prides themselves on sharing the experience of tasting wines hand-crafted by the very farmers who cultivate the grapes. Farmstead Wines works directly with known and trusted farmers all throughout Europe.
The appeal far exceeds being a wine snob wannabe, but rather offers you an understanding of the story behind the wine. I enjoy wine for a number of reasons, but one thing that has always resonated with me is the story. The generations of families who have contributed to the outcome of each harvest. I sometimes find myself daydreaming over a glass of Chablis, wondering what the vineyard looks like. What's the history behind the wine, the people, and the journey?
Farmstead Wines are naturally farmed and handcrafted, supporting the movement for authenticity. Each bottle provides information so you know exactly who produced the wine. Why not accompany these fine wines with local fair, supporting farmers throughout the lower mainland? Eats what's local and eat what's in season - it tastes better.
Firefly is located on 12th and Cambie - an area that's struggling as a result of the Canada Line construction. Let's support these guys and other businesses suffering during this unstable time.
