Many people got many yuks out of the trivia game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, whose premise is that any actor can be linked through a role to Kevin Bacon.
For example, according to Wikipedia, Ronald Reagan had two degrees of separation from Bacon, because he appeared in the 1961 movie The Young Doctors with Eddie Albert, who appeared in The Big Picture with Bacon in 1989.
The late pope John Paul II had three degrees of separation from Bacon, because he was in a movie called Padre Pio -- Tra cielo e terra with Giovanni Lombardo Radice in 2000.
Radice appeared in The Omen with Vee Vimolmal in 2006, and Vimolmal was in Where the Truth Lies with Bacon in 2005.
Michael Bacon has only one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon -- he's his older brother. And there won't be too much separation between them on Aug. 18, when these show-biz Bacon Brothers will be appearing at the Pacific National Exhibition as part of the fair's Summer Nights Concert Series.
Michael, 59, had a successful career as a film composer and Nashville songwriter before convincing Kevin, 50, to join him in a band in 1997. Since then, the musical Bacon Brothers have released four albums.
Kevin Bacon isn't the only musician/actor in the PNE lineup. Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus (of Hannah Montana and Doc fame) will be appearing Aug. 17, and teen idol Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical) will be appearing Aug. 24. Suzie McNeil, who owes her fame to the reality TV show Rock Star: INXS, will be appearing Aug. 28.
Local heroes Trooper kick off the festivities Aug. 16, while Spirit of the West wraps things up with a 25th anniversary show Sept. 1. The other big local names are 54-40 (Aug. 29) and Chilliwack (Aug. 30).
The wildly successful night of Elvis imitators will return Aug. 31, while the acclaimed Neil Diamond doppelganger Bobby Bruce will appear Aug. 27 with his act Nearly Neil, backed by the Solitary Band.
The lineup is big on oldies acts like Sheena Easton (Aug. 20), Tower of Power (Aug. 21) and Air Supply (Aug. 26). Eastern Canadian classic rockers Sass Jordan and Glass Tiger will be appearing Aug. 22 and 23, respectively.
Canadian country stars George Canyon (Aug. 19) and Aaron Pritchett (Aug. 25) round out the lineup, which is free with PNE admission. All shows will happen at 8 p.m. on the PNE Ampitheatre outdoor stage situated between the Agrodome and the Gardens.
