For the first time ever, members of the Canadian Armed Forces were among those who danced, shimmied, and strutted their way through downtown Toronto today in the Gay Pride parade.
Warrant Officer John McDougall, who has been an openly gay member of the military for 13 years, says being able to march in the parade in uniform is `groundbreaking.'
The parade was kicked off by International Grand Marshal Gareth Henry, who left Jamaica after being persecuted for his sexual orientation.
Other parade participants included Liberal MPs Bob Rae and Belinda Stronach.
Pride executive director Fatima Amarshi estimates a million people attended the parade.
